Anthony and his friends, self-proclaimed foodies, reached out to us for a unique day trip beyond Sitges’ beaches. Their goal? To explore the Mediterranean landscape and discover the rich flavors of local Penedès wines and artisan cheese. We crafted a personalized experience they wouldn’t forget!
A Scenic Drive Through Garraf & Cheese Tasting at a Historic Mas
We began the journey with a scenic drive through the Natural Park of Garraf, arriving at a centuries-old Catalan farmhouse, or “mas”, now a cooperative and school farm. Here, Joan, a passionate local producer, shared the secrets of artisanal goat cheese making, followed by a tasting session paired with local red wine—all enjoyed in the traditional way using a porró.
Immersive Winery Visits in Penedès
Next, we ventured deeper into the Penedès wine region, known for its rich winemaking heritage dating back to Roman times. Our first stop was an organic winery, where guests strolled through vineyards during harvest season, sampling fresh grapes and learning about how climate and ripening affect wine quality.
Inside the winery, we enjoyed a gourmet wine tasting, pairing prestigious whites and reds with local delicacies.
Cava Tasting in Underground Caves
The highlight of the tour was a visit to the winery’s underground galleries, where Cava is produced using the traditional method. We savored four premium Cavas paired with gourmet appetizers, immersing ourselves in the art of sparkling winemaking.
This winery is well known to produce some of the best Cava in the region and consequently in Spain. More than 90% of the sparkling wine in the country is produced in this region.
A Memorable Day in Sitges
After an educational and indulgent day, we returned to Sitges, where Anthony and his friends asked for some restaurant recommendations to continue their foodie adventure. It seemed the party wasn’t over yet! We said "see you soon" to our lovely guests!
