Picked up from the local hotel in a private vehicle, we headed to the first winery just a few kilometers away. Our first stop was at the top of a hill to admire the breathtaking views of the Penedès valley and the Montserrat mountain range.
Upon arriving at the winery estate, we embarked on a delightful walk among the vineyards. This allowed us to enjoy the stunning landscape surrounding the cellar while learning about the millennia-old history of this Mediterranean territory.
Anna, our winery guide, introduced us to the main characteristics of the wine region and explained how climate and location influence the grape varieties.
Since it was harvest time, we had the chance to sample some of the berries during our stroll, enjoying the taste of the ripe grapes right off the vine.
Back at the winery, we uncovered one of the most amazing and hidden estate's secrets: the amphora room!
This wine producer has been crafting amphora wines for several years, and these exceptional wines have already garnered numerous awards.
Clay amphoras allow wines to age as they did in Roman times. We didn't just hear about history; we got to touch and taste it!
Amphora wines are truly special and definitely worth tasting.
Feeling eager for more wine, we were guided to a private room in the winery where a selection of gourmet local products awaited us.
It wasn't just a beautiful meal with organic appetizers; the food was perfectly paired with the winery's selected wines, creating a truly memorable food and wine experience.
After lunch, we took a leisurely walk, but with the heat outside, we opted for a cooler environment downstairs. Guided by Marta, we explored the underground caves of a sparkling winery nestled in the heart of the Penedès valley.
Thousands of bottles were resting in these peaceful tunnels, undergoing their second fermentation process. It was a charming environment that any wine lover would appreciate!
To conclude our lovely visit, we enjoyed a delightful sparkling wine tasting in the tasting room. We sampled four distinctly different Cavas, showcasing the wide range of possibilities that Spanish sparkling wine can offer to wine lovers.
In conclusion, we savored a wide range different local Mediterranean wines, each distinct in its own right. It was truly a top-notch wine experience.
